Corporate social responsibility

ARA Property Services is committed to the sustainability of the communities in which we work and live. We recognise the positive influence of good corporate citizenship. This commitment to our community is expressed through:

  • Ethical business practices
  • Transparency in our operations and governance
  • Engagement and outreach to stakeholders affected by our operations and our projects
  • Philanthropy to support important causes; and
  • Encouragement, support and active involvement in organisations, charitable programmes, professional societies and other community groups.

In keeping with these commitments, we have been involved in sponsorship of not-for-profit organisations for many years, notably we are major sponsors of key events.

Disaster relief

In 2021 and 2022, the ARA Group has donated $100,000 per year to Givit, a national charity helping Australians in need. These funds have contributed to the desperate need among many Australians created by the floods and other natural disasters. Givit has little administrative overhead, so more than 90 per cent of our donations reach the people in need.

Literature

In 2020, the ARA Group established the ARA Historical Novel Prize in partnership with the Historical Novel Society Australasia and provides $100,000 of prize monies making this literary prize the richest genre prize in Australia and New Zealand.

In addition, the ARA Group is the Principal Partner of the Sydney Writers’ Festival. ARA has supported the Sydney Writers’ Festival since 2016. The ARA Group has also been the Principal Partner of the Melbourne Writers’ Festival since 2020.

Arts and Higher Education

The ARA Group is the Principal Partner for Property Services for the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) and we have made a multi-year commitment to NIDA. As a part of the ARA Principal Partner sponsorship, three $10,000 scholarships are given each year to three Indigenous students studying at NIDA.

Arts and Literature for Children

In addition to being the Principal Partner of the SWF, the ARA Group contributes significantly to Russ the Bus to promote and boost literacy in children.

The ARA Group is a key partner of the Story Factory, a not-for-profit creative writing centre for young people in under-resourced communities across New South Wales. The goal of the Story Factory is to build writing skills, confidence, and creativity.

Conservation

ARA’s longest partner in the community is the Taronga Zoo. ARA is a Crown sponsor and began supporting the Taronga Zoo in 2009. Our annual contribution has grown consistently during the period of our support.

Australian Cycling

ARA is the naming rights sponsor of the Australian Cycling Team. Our sponsorship of our Australian national teams across all disciplines includes abled and para disciplines in road, track, BMX freestyle, BMX racing, cyclo-cross, E-sports, mountain bike, and para-Cycling.

ACA is an elite training academy based on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, taking an athlete-centric approach to cycling development. ACA values life balance, hard work and loving what you do, and believe that a positive team culture is the best platform for success.

Sydney Swans

The Sydney Swans are a professional Australian rules football club based in Sydney, New South Wales. The men’s team competes in the Australian Football League, and the women’s team in the AFL Women’s.

Very Special Kids

ARA Property Services has had a long-standing partnership with the charity Very Special Kids (VSK), to raise awareness and funds. Very Special Kids supports families of children with life threatening conditions. During 2014, ARA raised over $100,000 for the charity. This was achieved through the charity gala, ARA Property Services’ Fundraising Café where staff are treated to a barista and chef.

Very Special Kids is a unique organisation that supports families throughout their experience of caring for children with life-threatening conditions, from diagnosis through to recovery or bereavement.

The organisation has operated Very Special Kids House since 1996, as Australia’s first – and Victoria’s only – children’s hospice, providing planned and emergency respite and end-of-life care.

These events include sponsorship of the Autumn Classic Cycling event, an annual virtual cycling race that rallies Melbourne’s cycling community as they compete in teams of six riders for the title of the highest fundraiser.
